Type “Masai Mara packages” into a search bar and you will get forty open tabs, six currencies and about as many definitions of “luxury.” Some quotes are three-day fly-ins that barely clear jet lag. Others are ten-day expeditions that treat the Mara as one stop among several. A few are barely packages at all — just a camp and a flight, with everything else left for you to piece together from a spreadsheet. None of that confusion is your fault; the Mara is genuinely large enough, and the ways of seeing it varied enough, that “a package” can mean five very different holidays.

This guide exists to make the choice easier. Below, we have broken Masai Mara packages down the way our own travel designers do it in the first phone call — first by how many days you actually have, then by the kind of trip you are taking, then by how much camp you want under the canvas. Every figure is quoted in INR, because that is the currency our guests plan in, and every package described is one we build and run ourselves.

If you already know you want the unhurried, ten-day version of this trip, we have written that one out day by day in a separate field note. If you are still deciding how many days you need, keep reading — that is exactly what the next section is for.

Masai Mara packages, by how long you have

Duration is the single biggest fork in the road. These four shapes cover almost every trip we plan — each can be run at any of the three comfort tiers further down the page.

A cheetah scanning the plains, seen on a Short Mara Escape package

3 nights · 4 days

Short Mara Escape

For travellers who can carve out a long weekend and nothing more. You fly straight into the Mara, skip the Rift Valley entirely, and spend two full days doing nothing but game drives with a private vehicle and guide. Compact, intense, and it still gets you a proper golden hour on the plains.

from ₹98,000 per person

An elephant crossing the dirt road ahead of a private safari vehicle, on the way in for a Classic Mara Package

5 nights · 6 days

Classic Mara Package

The shape most first-time guests end up choosing. A day at Lake Naivasha to ease into safari mode, then three unhurried nights in the Mara itself — enough time for the big-cat sightings to stop feeling lucky and start feeling ordinary.

from ₹1,65,000 per person

Hot air balloons over the Masai Mara at sunrise, included in the Grand Mara Safari package

7 nights · 8 days

Grand Mara Safari

Everything in the Classic, plus a full day at Lake Nakuru for rhinos and flamingos, and a dawn hot-air balloon safari with a champagne breakfast landing in the middle of the plains. This is the shape most honeymoons and anniversary trips end up taking.

from ₹2,25,000 per person

A golden sunset over acacia-dotted plains, the closing scene of the Complete Kenya Safari package

9 nights · 10 days

Complete Kenya Safari

Nairobi, both Rift Valley lakes, Nakuru’s rhinos and four full nights in the Mara — the whole story, told slowly. We have written this exact package out day by day if you want to see precisely how it unfolds.

from ₹2,95,000 per person · see the day-by-day

then, who is travelling

Masai Mara packages, by the kind of trip

Two families booking the same six nights can still want completely different packages. These are the four shapes that come up most often once duration is settled.

Giraffes and zebras seen on foot on Crescent Island, part of a Family Safari Package

ages 5 and up

Family Safari Package

Built around attention spans, not just game counts. Walking safaris, boat rides and Junior Ranger programmes break up the driving, interleading tents keep everyone close, and a private vehicle means a drive can pause the moment a child spots something first.

A private boat drifting past hippos at sunset, part of a Honeymoon Masai Mara Package

privacy, on purpose

Honeymoon Package

A private vehicle from the first transfer, a camp chosen for its distance from every other camp, and at least one meal served somewhere with no other guests in sight — a bush breakfast, a sundowner deck, occasionally both. Nobody has to set an alarm unless a lion insists.

A private game drive vehicle on an open, empty stretch of a Masai Mara conservancy

fewer vehicles, more access

Luxury Conservancy Package

Nights spent in a private conservancy bordering the main reserve, where vehicle numbers are capped and off-road driving is allowed. Fewer other travellers, and more of the actual animal — closer, off the tracks that the reserve’s own rules do not permit.

Wildebeest surging across the Mara River during a Migration Special Masai Mara Package

July – October

Migration Special Package

Timed and routed around the Mara River, this package positions you at the crossing points during the Great Migration’s peak weeks, with a guide who reads the herds’ nervous body language better than most guidebooks do. Book this one earliest of all.

then, how much camp

Masai Mara package prices, tier by tier

Every duration and every style above can run at any of these three levels. Prices shown are the entry point for the shortest duration at that tier.

The Comfort Collection

from₹85,000

per person · twin sharing

Solid 3- and 4-star lodges and tented camps, private game drives throughout, and every safari essential covered — for travellers who want the experience without a private-butler price tag.

  • Private vehicle & guide on every game drive
  • Ensuite tented accommodation or lodge room
  • All park fees & full-board meals
  • Airport transfers in Nairobi

Ultra-Luxury & Conservancy

from₹2,85,000

per person · twin sharing

Private conservancies, exclusive-use camps and star-bed nights under an open sky — for travellers who want the Mara at its quietest, and who would rather share a sighting with nobody at all.

  • Private conservancy stays, fewer vehicles
  • Off-road & night drives where permitted
  • Optional exclusive-use villa or camp
  • Photographer-guided days available

Tiers apply across every duration above — a Short Mara Escape can be booked at Comfort or Premium level, and a Complete Kenya Safari can run all the way up to Ultra-Luxury. Tell your travel designer the shape you want and the level of camp, and we will quote both together.

then, which month

When to book your Masai Mara package

There is no bad month to visit — only different ones, at different prices. Here is the honest cheat-sheet our designers give every guest.

Jul – Oct Great Migration season, river crossings at their most dramatic. Packages in this window sell out six to nine months ahead, and rates sit at their peak. unmissable
Jan – Feb The short dry spell between the rains. Grass is low, cats are easy to spot, and camp rates dip from peak — good value at any package tier. best value
Jun & Nov Shoulder weeks either side of the migration. Quieter camps, newborn wildlife, and packages priced a notch below peak. quiet season
Mar – May The long rains. Some camps close for maintenance and roads soften. We usually route a Masai Mara package around this window rather than through it. plan around

our designers’ tip — booking a Migration Special package? Ask for a camp on the Mara River side rather than the plains side. You will spend less time driving to the crossing points and more time waiting at them.

putting it together

How to actually pick the right one

Four questions, in order, are usually enough to land on the right Masai Mara package.

How many nights can you spare?

Match to a duration package first — everything else below is a variant of the same base shape.

Who is travelling with you?

Family, honeymoon and group trips point to different package styles, even at an identical duration.

Reserve, or conservancy?

The reserve has the highest sighting density; a conservancy trades a little of that for privacy and off-road access.

Which month works for you?

Migration season books out first and costs most; the shoulder months get you most of the magic for less.

before you ask

Masai Mara packages, answered honestly

The questions guests ask most before booking. Something else on your mind? Your designer will happily answer it.

Packages we run start around ₹85,000 per person for a short, comfort-tier escape and rise to ₹2,85,000 and beyond for longer, conservancy-based trips. Duration is usually the biggest swing factor, followed by which camp tier you choose and whether you are travelling in migration season.
Five to six nights is the shape most first-time guests are happiest with — enough time in the reserve for sightings to feel earned rather than lucky, without turning the whole trip into a safari. If you can stretch to eight or ten days, we would add a Rift Valley lake and possibly a balloon safari rather than more Mara nights alone.
The Masai Mara National Reserve has the highest concentration of wildlife and the most camps to choose from, but stays on marked roads and shares sightings with other vehicles. Private conservancies border the reserve, cap the number of camps and vehicles allowed in, and permit off-road driving and night drives — at a higher nightly rate.
Only if it is named in the package — it is usually an add-on to shorter or Comfort-tier trips, and included by default in our Grand Mara Safari package and above. If a dawn balloon flight matters to you, tell your travel designer up front so it is built into the itinerary rather than squeezed in.
Every package we build uses a private vehicle and guide — you will not be grouped with another family or couple unless you specifically ask for a shared departure to bring the cost down.
For July to October, six to nine months ahead is safest — the smaller camps along the river hold only a handful of tents each, and those go first. For any other season, three to four months’ notice is comfortable.
