Type "Masai Mara tourism packages from India" into a search bar and the results will span everything from ₹85,000 shared-truck circuits to open-ended ₹15,00,000 private expeditions, with very little explaining what actually separates one from the other. The honest answer is that "package" is doing a lot of work in that phrase — it can mean a seat on a shared overland truck with eight strangers, a fly-in long weekend timed around one balloon ride, or a fully designed circuit with your own vehicle, driver-guide and INR invoice from day one. This page exists to make that difference legible before you commit any money, in plain rupee terms.

India has quietly become one of Kenya's most important source markets for leisure travel, and the flight schedule shows it: three airlines now fly nonstop between Mumbai and Nairobi — Kenya Airways (twice daily), IndiGo (daily) and Air India (several times a week) — with the crossing taking a little over six hours. Travellers flying from Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai or Hyderabad usually connect through Mumbai or take a one-stop routing via Doha, Dubai or Addis Ababa, adding roughly three to six hours depending on the layover.

What follows is organised two ways: first by duration, since that decides your flight dates and leave application more than anything else; then by travel style, since a honeymoon week and a family safari need very different camps even along an identical route. Every price below is per person on twin-sharing unless stated otherwise, quoted from what our designers have actually booked this season — not a teaser rate that changes the moment you enquire.

Three ways to run this route, built for how much time Indian travellers realistically have. Every version is private — your own vehicle, your own guide, your own pace.

The 5-Day Mara Express

from₹1,45,000

5 days · 4 nights · per person, twin sharing

  • Bush breakfast or sundowner, once each
  • All park fees & camp meals included

7-Day Mara & Lake Nakuru

7 days · 6 nights · per person, twin sharing

The most-booked middle ground: a road safari that adds Lake Nakuru's rhinos and flamingos before three unhurried nights inside the Mara itself.

  • Lake Nakuru National Park, full day
  • Three nights in a Mara tented camp
  • Return road transfer, Nairobi included

the logistics

Getting there: flights & the Kenya visa

The flight is shorter than most people expect. Mumbai to Nairobi is a nonstop crossing of a little over six hours, and three airlines now fly it: Kenya Airways runs it twice daily, IndiGo flies it daily, and Air India operates it several times a week. If you're starting from Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai or Hyderabad, the simplest option is usually a domestic or short connecting hop through Mumbai; the alternative is a one-stop routing via Doha, Dubai or Addis Ababa, which adds a few hours but can work out cheaper depending on the season.

On the visa, the process changed in a way most travel content online hasn't caught up with yet. Since January 2024, Kenya replaced its old visa-on-arrival and e-visa system with a single Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) that every Indian passport holder must apply for online before boarding — adults, children and infants alike, each with their own application. Standard processing runs about three business days, the fee is roughly USD 30 at the time of writing (worth confirming the live rate before you pay, since it's billed in dollars), and an expedited option exists if you're booking close to departure. The eTA is valid for 90 days from issue, though the immigration officer at Jomo Kenyatta decides your exact permitted stay on arrival.

A Yellow Fever certificate isn't automatically required for travellers flying direct from India, but it can be asked for if your routing transits a yellow-fever-risk country, so it's worth checking your specific layover before you fly. Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory on every itinerary we build, and our pre-departure pack tells you exactly what it needs to cover.

pick your month

When the Mara wears which costume

There's no wrong month to book a Masai Mara package from India — only a different trip. Here's the cheat-sheet we give every guest before they choose their dates.

Jul – Oct The Great Migration and river crossings — the Mara at full volume. Book six to nine months ahead; peak-season rates apply. unmissable
Dec – Feb Short dry season. Golden light, easy cat sightings on the short grass, and the best-value camp rates of the year. the smart pick
Jun & Nov Shoulder weeks — emerald grass, newborn impala, thin crowds, and camp staff with time to spare for you. quiet luxury
Mar – May The long rains. A handful of camps close and roads get adventurous — better to plan a beach extension instead. plan around it

our designers' tip — ask about green-season rate cards before locking July–October dates. Many premium camps in the Mara conservancies drop 30–40% for the exact same tents just six to eight weeks either side of peak migration.

before you book

How to choose the right package

Five decisions, in the order we'd make them ourselves.

01

Fix your travel window

Decide roughly when you're going before anything else. Season affects price, camp availability and even which add-ons make sense — a balloon safari books out fast in migration months.

02

Private vehicle or group departure

A private 4x4 costs more per person but lets you linger at one sighting and skip another entirely; joining a small group brings the per-person price down noticeably.

03

Set a realistic per-person budget

Camps inside the Mara conservancies see far fewer vehicles per sighting than reserve-adjacent lodges, and cost meaningfully more for it. Decide upfront which trade-off actually matters to you.

04

Choose your duration

Five days suits a focused, Mara-only trip. Seven to ten days lets you add Lake Nakuru's rhinos or the Rift Valley lakes without ever feeling rushed.

05

Talk to a designer before you book

A short call usually reshapes an itinerary more than any amount of reading does. Use it to pressure-test your dates, your camps and the parts of the plan you're still unsure about.

before you ask

About these packages, answered honestly

The questions Indian travellers ask most before booking a Masai Mara trip. Anything else on your mind? Your designer will happily answer it too.

Most travellers from India pay somewhere between ₹1,45,000 and ₹4,45,000 per person for a private Masai Mara package, depending on trip length, season and camp category. A five-day fly-in safari sits at the lower end; a ten-day private Kenya circuit with a hot-air balloon and premium camps sits at the top. Group departures and off-season travel bring the number down; the July–October migration and the Christmas fortnight push it up.
Seven to ten days is the range we recommend most. Anything shorter than five spends too much of the trip in transit once the long-haul flight is counted; anything past ten starts repeating game drives rather than adding new ground. Seven days covers the Mara comfortably with one extra stop such as Lake Nakuru, while ten days adds the full Rift Valley chapter as well.
Yes. Since January 2024, Kenya has replaced its old visa-on-arrival and e-visa system with a single Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) that every Indian passport holder must obtain online before departure, including children. Standard processing takes about three business days and the fee is roughly USD 30, with an expedited option for late bookings. The eTA is valid for 90 days from issue, and immigration confirms the exact permitted stay on arrival.
For the Great Migration months of July to October, book six to nine months ahead — the small camps on this route hold as few as ten to twenty tents, and river-crossing weeks fill first. For the short dry season from December to February, three to four months' notice is usually enough. Travellers with flexible dates often prefer June and November, when rates drop for the same camps.
Every package on this page is a starting template, not a fixed product. Common changes include swapping Lake Nakuru for Amboseli's elephant herds, adding a beach extension in Diani or Zanzibar, upgrading to a private conservancy for part of the stay, or shortening the Rift Valley chapter. A travel designer reworks the day-by-day plan around your dates and budget before any payment is made.
Yes. The reserve is patrolled and every game drive happens inside a private vehicle with a licensed guide, so the usual precautions concern the journey rather than the destination: keep valuables out of sight in Nairobi, use recommended transfers after dark, and follow your guide's instructions around wildlife. Camps on this route regularly host Indian family groups and solo travellers, and several run dedicated children's programmes.
